Now and Then Tulips…in Charisma’s Garden of Quilts
Hi everyone!
I got a delivery today…bound quilts. this particular quilt was made from a pattern in a book called “Material Obsession 2″…I kind of have an obsession with those books. All the people at the quilt show { at the end of this week} will soon know. Not only that I have kits of fabrics that I have gathered and bought for future MO projects from these books..I just love all of their projects..I have hopped around and made the ones that speak to me in some ways. I added the piano key border to the original pattern..and also the scalloped border.
This particular one..was actually wrong in the book..{ I actually wrote the author..she was very kind and said yes..indeed I was correct..hey it happens sometimes..right?} .I mean the instructions were wrong..but of course I didn’t figure that out until I had aready cut..and tried to sew everything on the bias. So then ripping out bias HST ..you can imagine the mess. and you know what else? My LQS didn’t have any more of that background fabric.{so I could start over}.which I was in love with. So I tried to just make it all work….which was a mistake because the quilt didn’t end up square. I pieced it before I owned a long arm. I still loved the quilt and couldn’t part with it. So I would pull it out of the bin..look at it put it back. I thought several times of sending it to someone else for quilting…finally just decided to get it over with and quilt it. Rob my fabulous husband. did the math and marked all the scallops while I was working with the boys.
Now ..it’s finished..it will hang in the show..and I am STILL in LOVE with it.
in the book it’s called “Now&Then”
I used mostly Amy Butler fabrics, I threw in an orange I really liked….I also used the brown dot from Michael miller to bring it all in. I can’t remember who designed the big cream dot background fabric..I just knew I loved it.
So quilting designs….The fans in the side empty side setting traingles..I made pointed edges in the center (three) to mimic the designs in the tulips. I used continuous curves in the patchwork squares, wavy lines in the background behind the flowers….and and I filled the piano scallops with a feather. I thought about straight lines for that..but honestly the border had so much going on..I felt like a feather would be just fine, instead of taking my ruler out and going to all that trouble.
I love love love that quilt, I need to find that book. Pererably with the correct instructions. I have been looking for a scrappy pattern that did not look like every other scrappy. This would. Be perfect.
what a beautiful quilt you made there!! would you mind to share there errata??
