Vintage Granny Squares
Well I browse through many blogs…I love so many..but there is a popular quilt-along going on right now and the featured block is granny squares.
I am not doing that challenge…although I think they are adorable.
But I was gifted these Granny square blocks..they are vintage..made from men’s old shirts. I spoke of the process a bit here. But The squares were all different sizes, thin kind of fragile fabric…{because they are so old}…so I put sashings, corner stones and a border. I didn’t wash the quilt ahead of time because I could repair anything as I went..and I thought that the quilt would be more stable once it was constructed to wash it.
I just quilted a large all over stipple….because the quilt was not square and I was worried about doing an all over type of design. I am glad that I had the experience with my vintage 1929 quilt to know I could now use those design boards on this type of quilt as well ..and they will quilt out. I used bamboo batting..it’s currently in the wash….so it will get the crinkled vintage look and feel to it….so exciting! It’s like Christmas to get my quilts back from Beth.
Charisma i so love looking at your work and reading your comments…thank you so much for sharing…you are an inspiration….I`m still working on my translation contract so taking a break once in a while to come take a look….lol
