I am so excited to share Happy Mail.
Back in November, I think, I had designed a scrap quilt using 3 inch 9 patches. I needed 400 of them. I thought that was a little ambitious, even for myself. But I really liked the design. I thought I would ask here and on my social media if anyone would like to contribute to my cause. hehe.
I decided that I would put the quilt together in February, that was the deadline. I wanted to have 5 colored patches of a single fabric, any color, pattern, print ect. The backgound could be white, cream, tone on tone, low volume…whatever. just as long as there was a contrast. I was going to be fine with whatever.
I didn’t really know the name of the quilt yet. Nothing was sitting right. I figured it would come to me along the way.
What happened was unexpected.
So many people contributed. Many of you contributed several and I was blessed with such sweet cards, notes and Happy Mail most days. 42 of you contributed to this quilt. 2 countries are represented and many states.
In a time when a connection is sacred and we think we are “alone” I had little Patches of Happiness arrive.
Who could have predicted that my 2021 would start out so terrible? My father passes away within a few weeks my beloved grandmother passed as well. I find myself not being able to focus fully. I am treading water to get things done that I have to get done. I am thankful for the help I have had along the way. friends helping me sew samples and meals, flowers. kindness ect….It’s been a welcome blessing in a time when I feel overwhelmed and sad. I literally joined a business meeting and lost myself. I was so embarrassed. Thankfully, the group met me with kindness and love.
But when I was feeling like I just needed a sense of accomplishment I would work on these 9 patches. I cut every single background piece one by one from scraps. I took all of those odd & end scraps and for some reason it was some weird therapy. I could have strip cut them and made the process so much faster. But I didn’t. I just needed that time to do something mindless and not worry about making a mistake.
This simple scrap quilt that I designed for a “FUN” project became so much more. It became Happy Mail, Therapy and a beautiful reminder of all of the good in the world. I am just moved by the fact that so many people from all over the place– that maybe don’t even know who I am, would take the time out of their lives to contribute to my quilt. It’s honestly heartwarming…something that I will treasure.
I was able to make 2 quilts. The pattern offers 2 sizes. all of the people that contributed will receive a complimentary copy. I am mailing them out on Monday. Thank You A million times over for the kindness you have shared with me.
I also made a label and sewed it into the back of each quilt. I printed it on Printed Treasures and included the names and places of everyone that participated. You all will forever be a part of the story that these quilts will share. *heart-warming*
You can see the label on the back of the quilt hanging in this photo. I used scraps of flannel to sew the backing on that smaller one…I figured it would be a cuddle on the couch quilt for myself.
If any of you are interested in the pattern, you can find it in my Etsy Shop HERE.
Its a great scrap buster! I hope it makes you all as happy as it makes me.
