**DRAWING**
Hi Everybody, As you all know I submit regularly to magazines…and I just so happen to have a few extra copies of an upcoming issue McCall’s Quilting September/October 2020. This should be on the shelves soon.
So I thought I would do a drawing for these few extra copies.
This particular issue features my quilt called “Pumpkin Spice Bread”
Here is the deal….I love FALL! If there is an apple and cinnamon involved….I am there. We live in Apple country…so we eat apple crisp, pie, bread, sauce and I LOVE me and apple dumpling. YUMMY!
Apple Harvest happens at the same time as pumpkin festivals and harvest. Every year we took our kids to a a loop of farms and enjoyed the fall harvest with hay rides, corn mazes, pumpkin doughnuts, kettle corn, and pumpkin chunkin…..there’s a whole scrapbook of memories associated with the Pumpkin festival. So each kid would pick out pumkins to carve…and I always bought a few extra to make pasta sauce, pumpkin pies, bread, chili and we also use cooked pumpkin for our dogs. It’s good for their tummy. I love me some squash soup. There is typically always some kind of squash in my kitchen all year long because I do love it.
So I will draw a few winners next Saturday and I will ship one of these magazines out to 2 winners!

Apples are one of my FAVORITE fruits! I looooove making and eating sauce the most! No recipe, just several different kinds of apples, peeled, cored and sliced/chunked, in a big pot, with a bit of water, sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon, maybe some sugar. I mix sweet, tart and juicy varieties, in random combinations, so each batch has its own unique flavor profile. I summer till the apples are soft and then slightly mash em. (We like our sauce a bit thick and chunky) Can it up or eat it up, right from the pot. If you can wait, chill it overnight and the flavor intensifies. Yum!

Just to make your house smell good
Sliced lemon cinnamon sticks, cloves and 1 or 2 star anise
simmer on back burner add water as needed
this will last 2 or 3 day before you need to change it out
and start fresh

My favorite fall recipe is Chocolate Chip Applesauce Cake. My family has been making it since I was in the 2nd grade, and my class created an “Apple Cookbook” after we read about Johnny Appleseed. ❤️
Ohio apples aren’t that great at all. I’m from upstate NY and I can’t believe the difference in quality. Maybe it’s the cold weather?

Molasses cookies. Love them!
1 1/2 c. Vegetable oil or canola oil
2 c. Granulated sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. Molasses
4 c. All purpose flour
4 Tbsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon
2 tsp. Ground ginger
1 tsp. Ground cloves
Cream together in mixer oil, sugar and eggs. Add in molasses. In a separate bowl blend dry ingredients together. Stir dry ingredients into sugar mixture. Shape into balls about walnut size and lightly roll in granulated sugar. Bake on cookie sheet covered in parchment paper at 350* in the oven for 5 to 7 minutes. May use greased cookie sheet instead of parchment paper. Enjoy!

I remember when my Grandmother used to make Applesauce Cake that was to die for. She always used Lard instead of shortening. I went to try to find the ingredients one day and my children kept asking, “what is Lard?” and “Why are you putting it in the cake?” My cake never had the same taste as Grandma’s (of course, she never actually measured many of her ingredients, she always told us put in enough ____ until it feels right). I still have that old recipe somewhere (I hope). Even though it will never taste like Grandma’s using the apples she grew up on Middle Bass Island, I would love to locate the recipe and try it again one day.

I’ve been making this recipe every year for 49 years!
Pumpkin Bread
2/3 cup Shortening
2 cups Sugar
4 Eggs
1 (1-pound) can Pumpkin
2/3 cup Water
1-1/2 teaspoons Salt
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground Cloves
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
2 teaspoons Baking Soda
3-1/3 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 cup Pecans, broken
1 cup Raisins
Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly. Beat in eggs, pumpkin, and water. Add to the pumpkin mixture salt, cinnamon, cloves, baking powder, baking soda, and flour (in that order). Stir in the pecans and raisins. Pour into two (2-quart) greased and floured loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees F. for one hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Yield: Two large or three medium loaves.

Recipe???? Oh my. That’s a hard one. I have a hard time choosing…..I really love the marble pound cake at Stop&Shop, but I do drool over the pumpkin pie at Costco! But the problem with that one is that I am the only one in my family that likes pumpkin pie so the huge one is too much for just me. So I have to settle for the 1/2 that they sell at Stop&Shop. As you can see, I am not a baker at all so recipes are lost on me. But I am a great eater!!! I say thank you to whoever is the cook and brings/sends me their leftovers. Cooking is not the gift that God gave me (I do appreciate the skill that goes into it though and I really like to watch cooking shows). I have other talents…..color combos is one of them. :) Thank you for this fun contest!
Pumpkin spice zucchini bread. Substitute apple sauce for some of the oil in your favorite recipe…better flavor and stays just as moist.
