Cabins and Braids
Mary loves Log cabin quilts…..I have quilted several for her. I have never seen a quilt she made that I didn’t like..honestly.
This log cabin is totally my color way ( I love pink and Yellow!) the spots of green really stand out.
I quilted feathers in the pink areas…and charisma curls in the yellow area ..with a swirly wreath in the center. The lighting is so difficult these last few weeks. We have had a lot of gray days that makes it difficult to capture good pictures. You have to time it just right and clearly it didn’t happen for this one. But I took a shot inside..so you could get an idea of what I quilted.
The second quilt is just STUNNING! Wow! I love the rich saturated colors and the black that sets it off. Mary made this for friends of her ( that I believe have an anniversary coming up?) and asked me to hide their names somewhere. I didn’t really hide it…..you can probably see it in some of the pictures? I also put a little heart on the other side with Mary’s name. ON a quilt like this I would normally use black thread. Black is the absence of color so it doesn’t “steal” the show. However Mary said the recipient likes glitz and glam. So I used a dark purple embroidery type thread that has a sheen to it…it really looks almost like a metallic purple thread on that black..it’s beautiful.
I also used a purple thread on the back …I rarely do high contrast thread on the back of quilts..it’s scary to me…because it will show every flaw and every movement. But the purple blended so well on the top ( other than the back sashing and borders) That I thought if I used a high contrast thread I could make a reversible quilt. I used a different quilting design in each block of the leaf fabric. it was so blended on the top you couldn’t see it…but it’s a piece of art on the back with lots of interesting things to see. I used lots of feathers, charisma curls, leaves, loops, lines….a bit of everything.
They are so beautiful! Thanks Mary! always a pleasure working with you!
I’m still drooling over these pictures! Can’t wait to see them in person as I know they will be even more beautiful. Fantastic job, Charisma! Thanks so much!
