Design Make Quilt Modern
Hi Friends!
I wanted to share a book with you. I don’t know about you but I am one of those quilters that is also a reader. But I love looking at quilt books as much as reading them. I will take a stack with me on a road trip and read through them while my husband drives. When my friend Heather released this latest book I knew I wanted one of these books.
The book is called Design, Make, Quilt. You can find it HERE.
Honestly, I read this book cover to cover. more than once. I loved it so much I loaned it to a friend and she felt the same way I did.
Heather Black is a modern quilter. You all know I dabble in a bit of everything. I think that is what make me a great longarm quilter. There is not a style that I don’t love. If I hated something I am not sure I would want to work on it. But I find myself ooohing and awing over many types of quilts and styles. I find the charm in just about everything.
Anyhow. What I love about this book is that Heather is talking about quilt design. She takes you thorough all of the principles and shows examples. But she articulates everything so well without having to go into the theory of all of them. I don’t want to know all of the definitions of the scientific theory behind it all, I just want to know why as a designer you chose this setting or that …what did it mean or offer to you. She does that.
Here is a Table of Contents. heather takes you from tools , selecting fabrics, quilting, inspiration ect. There is such great information in each chapter. I am a pattern design and quilter myself and I really love seeing how other designers process and plan and design. It gives great insight as to how to tackle designing in a manageable way.
I think no matter where you are in your journey, hobby ect. It also doesn’t matter of you are a traditional or modern quilter the practical way she approaches design works for every style. This is a great book. If you are thinking of designing your own quilts for your own personal creativity or whether you want to create a pattern design business I think this book is a great tool. It makes you look at each element of the process and examine each part. It’s very practical, approachable and easy to follow.
I just wanted to share. This also includes a few projects. So you get really great information and you get projects….I love that!
I hope you all feel a bit more inspired to design.
