Vintage New

I have a new love. Vintage tablecloths. They are pretty…and affordable if you find them at the right places…and I happened to get some at my church yard sale last fall. IMG_4280 IMG_4281

I Immediately fell in love with this one  because the mums ….don’t they look familiar? hmmm? They look so much like Kaffe fabric mums to me…that I was attracted to them. The colors are a bit off …an off green and an off red..just as vintage would suggest. IMG_4282 IMG_4283 IMG_4284

So I added a few borders…Rob helped me scallop the final border and away I went. I pinned it on the frame..and it sat there for a few months…cause well I was busy during that time…then I finished it when I came back from Haiti. It’s been with Beth these last few months for binding. I just send along my bindings and she works on them when she has time..I am hardly ever in a hurry.  I used muslin for the backing and for my borders..except the red-polka dot. I couldn’t resist…even though it wasn’t “vintage specific”…it compliments it well.IMG_4285 IMG_4286

I am more about turning something beautiful into something useful…and giving it purpose rather than keeping everything in it’s valuable state. What good is a quilt top that is 50 years old if it’s just sitting there? So many “Quilt police” will tell you it’s only worth whatever the last thing that was done to it…well If a quilt top is sitting there…and not being used..who cares if you decrease the value it by turning it into a quilt? I am more “romantic” about that stuff…and I just see that this lonely quilt top is sitting buried in a drawer…rather than being valued and loved. in this case…it’s just a table linen…so I just gave it a different purpose…and I love the new purpose. A quilt! It can still be a table cloth as well.

I love the back! Just as lovely as the front!  IMG_4287 IMG_4288 IMG_4289

Wow, well done. Lots of quilting on this one. Love the pebbles, especially in the feather spine!
