Christina sent me this quilt for LAQ ….I won’t even say how long ago. We kept getting disconnected somehow…and well finally it’s finished. When we originally spoke about this quilt (This will be a hint of how long I have had it..probably)…I think we decided I could quilt loops and stars…..Well I think I have improved since then…Don’t you?
However, I thought since she was willing to send me her quilt back then for a simple design she wouldn’t mind if I used her quilt with my new templates from Loricles. They are so much fun..but there is a learning curve… I got it at the end..but I still think the quilt turned out nicely…despite my learning curve..and Christina was gracious enough to accept it. She is really nice to work with..she just gave birth a new baby girl…how exciting!
This is Amy’s first quilt. Not only is this a difficult pattern for a beginner, her color choices are beautiful; she obviously has an eye for color, but it is also a HUGE quilt. My first quilt is a lap quilt. LOL..easy strips….dull kind of colors.
Amy was originally going to hand quilt this…another HUGE adventure..but instead decided to send it to me for long arm quilting. What an honor!
I quilted it with swirly fathers in the side setting triangles and borders…I treated as all one continuous area and design. I did simple block work and quilted Charisma Curls in the background area. I love the way it all came together.
Amy is clearly a very ambitious person with talent to boot!
OK so a few months back I decided my scrap bin was over flowing…..and well I don’t have much free time to piece my own quilts anymore..I am working on making time now (that I am a drop out..LOL) and I can’t bear throwing them out…i love scrap quilts..i love everything they represent. They are comfortable they have stories…stories of how they were a part of something different at one time…they were the ‘left overs” and they can be made into something useful, beautiful and have purpose. I have felt that way many times in my own life..and to think about throwing the scraps away because they are no longer good? or they already served a purpose for me…weird right? as if they have feelings?? I know but I am so that way…..I get connected to weird things…So when I see a scrap quilt, I see everything they represent and find true beauty in that…..I have given many away as well… so someone else may have that treasure…but I wanted to keep some for myself.
So getting back to the plan…I posted an add on the quiltingboard to see if anyone would be willing to trade. Piecing my scraps into quilts for long arm quilting services.  I had a HUGE response. LOL So I emptied all of my scraps into many flat rate boxes…and sent them all over the USA and Canada.
The rule was….use as many scraps as you can…surprise me with whatever pattern you make….You can make as many quits as you want with your box..but to keep in mind that I would quilt roughly the same size quilt for them that they pieced for me. So basically don’t make me a baby quilt and send me a king size quilt for quilting. Let’s keep it fair. Send back any un-used scraps…oh the other rule was…(because I am a fabric snob) If you need to add anything please contact me and i will send background fabric…cause i only use LQS quality fabrics..( I didn’t want anyone to hate me…so I would totally foot the bill for that)…..So today one returned…I was so excited…..Lori made me one quilt….I have to say this give us a whole new meaning to “multiplying scraps…..It doesn’t even look like she made a dent in the box of scraps and this is a twin size quilt…LOL.
I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE my quilt..I am pretty sure I squealed when I opened it. Sabrina was with me when it came…. Oh I am so excited!..I am going to hang it up in my studio and figure out how I am going to quilt it….This will be a fun project for me while I am on hiatus after Christmas..LOL. Don’t you all just LOVE it?
Lara sent this quilt to us for all over stipple. My boys offer this service for a penny a square inch. This is a fabulous good deal for those quilts that are just screaming for comfort, cozy and simple design. I love stipple.
We used a green variegated thread…which complimented teh quilt perfectly. We used Hobbs polydown batting. Thanks Lara!
Well today is Friday so I had my normal breakfast meeting with my quilting friends…That’s always yummy. Sabrina (my shopping twin) is here quilting. I have 6 kids quilts that need to be quilted before Christmas…so she is here helping me get those completed.
While Virgina was here this week..she gave me some ideas on posting photos of my studio..so you will get bit’s and small snipets of my studio until the Christmas season is over and I can clean and straighten it..then you can all see what my whole studio looks like.
Here is one little section that I love….The jar of buttons was given to me by someone special from my church. She is a God-fearing kind hearted women who got rid of her quilting stash. I had helped her sell some stuff and this jar of buttons was in her yard sale. I picked them up ( Well Darlene gave them to me) because a friend of mine collects them ( Sabrina actually) …but I thought they were so cute and i like to have that reminder of Darlene in my sewing area. The fabric bundles are by one of my favorite fabric Designers, Tula Pink. The birdie pin cushion is from Laura. Laura always makes the best quilts I think her and I have such similar style. Anyway I quilted a quilt for her and it won ribbons so as a thank you she sent me this beautiful pin Cushion..so it gets a place of honor on my favorite little shelf. I also have a picture of my family,my brother, Nathan and his partner Robert, and one of my Bestie’s Carla last summer when we went on the Duck Tour in Seattle. It was so much fun and really a highlight of our last trip. So here is one little shelf in my Studio.
I also made this quilt for my Friend Carla….You know one of my Besties??
She is in Florida right now and she was able to pet a giraffe this morning…Pretty Amazing right? She is visiting a friend ..who just had her baby, Evander. This was a quilt we made for him. Courtney and Carla Constructed it..I quilted it and Beth bound it. Isn’t that called “Synergy”..am I using that term correctly? LOL . Yeah a fancy word for Team work!
I made this For Evander’s Older sister a couple years ago. Her name is Sophia.
Well I better go check on Sabrina….I have more picturs to post later.
