I fell in love with this quilt the moment I saw it at a show. Right when I saw it it reminded me of scenes from “Little Women” I am not really sure why ?? I have read all of the books and watched the movies several times. Those of you that know me or have been following me for quite some time know how romantic and day dreamy I am….so many books & movies touch me so deeply they become engrained in me. So this was one of those things.
I have seen this made in several colors ways and even with variegated thread….but I loved the vintage look of the original. They have at least one of these quilts at every quilt show I have ever been too….and honestly I never tire of it. Which is a good thing. I love seeing all of the interpretations.
Those that know me also know I am an “Orphan” as far as earthly family and I don’t have parents. So the saying on the original quilt didn’t fit with the theme for my family or life personally so I changed it to a quote from “Little Women”.
Which is ” The power of finding beauty in the humblest of things makes home happy and life lovely”
I also put a little tree with roots at the end of the quote and the year that I started the project…..honestly I didn’t think it would take me so long to complete it ..so it says 2012. I actually didn’t have much hand embroidery left last week to get it done….most of it has been done for a a long time. 🙂
I used a line by Basic Gray for Moda called “Little Black Dress” I have to say it is a favorite line of mine because I love the patterns and the vintage classic colors used in all of the pieces. The line doesn’t fit the “theme” per se…but the colors do and i adore the finished quilt top.
Now I just have to figure out how I am going to quilt it. I have never seen it quilted heavily…..or with any real custom work. I am kind of stuck as to how to quilt it. Should I go gentle on the quilting…..or go heavy? I am going to think about it.
