Meeting Anna Maria Horner

Well Friday I went to my hometown to attend one of my Bestie’s 40th birthday party. The party was on Saturday..but on Friday one of the Spokane shops had Anna Maria hosting workshops..I didn’t have time for those but I did attend her lecture Friday night.

I actually have to say I was hesitant to go because I didn’t want to pay for a big commercial, plugging product. I didn’t take any of my Anna Maria Books or patterns for her to sign…because “things” are important to me but experiences are. I love her style..I love her books and I seem to gravitate towards them before I even know they are hers..you know? I have to say I left the lecture happy and renewed. She was so down to earth and  just like me.

We had so many similarities..she has 6 kids… trying to balance business, creativity and family is our main goal. There was a quilt she showed us that she had worked on ..all by hand and she doesn’t have a pattern for it…but it was just a collage sort of quilt that she just wanted to work on while hanging with her family…I loved it . It was all the more special i think just because i have those projects too..they may not look like anything special to outsiders..but we always have that memory of ….I did this part while hanging with my kids at the lake…or I sewed this while watching this movie..or whatever else we did. Love those types of quilts.

She explained her process of design..she doesn’t have any fancy programs..She uses free programs offered on the net. Love that! it makes it seem acheivable for any of us…doesn’t it? She also spoke of  her inspiration and where it comes from..which is just like any of us…..So I no longer feel weird when I ask a restaurant if I can take a picture of a piece of pottery hanging on their wall. I can find quilting patterns in odd places all the time. She also shared how the fabric process works…and the fine tuning of the colros and dying process. very interesting.

So I have to say I went for my picture after the lecture..I really liked her…and her history. So if any of you have the chance to go to any of her meets,  I think it will really inspire anyone who has their own business and working their way up in the art world.

Blessings

C

    Hi C!
Like I said to you earlier today, lovely picture! I was just looking at it again. Your purse looks familiar. Is that the knotted bag or a bow tuck?
    Blessings
