Fabric Fast Stats

OK So this week I felt like I had so much to get done for work…not much in the way of working on my own projects. But I did get a back pieced for a quilt top I put together last Sunday after my friend left for the 2 hour drive home.  It’s a great pattern by The Cozy Quilt Co Called Big & Bold. You can click the title to get the pattern if you like. IMG_8046

The nice thing about this pattern is that you use fat quarters and it doesn’t waste hardly anything because you use the scraps from the block that you cut for the outside border. There are several sizes. I made the queen size…it’s for a teenage boy. So I used black, red, white & gray…I tried to use geometric….& less floral type fabrics because of that. Also a teenage boy doesn’t really care exactly what type of dynamic pattern was used….so it’s best to keep it simple. 🙂IMG_8047

The good thing is that I get to add 16.5 yards to my count this week. I pieced the front & back from leftovers I had of this line and cut the binding. I will get better pictures when I actually quilt it. The ground is so wet outside from melting snow…it’s not a good time to get outside photos.photo-003 photo-2

I also finished this quilt. I got the house blocks and the Scottie dog blocks from my friend Donna. She made them and then decided that she didn’t want to make the quilt anymore. There were 15 blocks total ..which was kind of an odd number. So I had to think about these for awhile. I found some fat quarters in my stash that I thought would look nice with them. Still had to think about them. Then I decided I would make a bunch of 9 patches to set them. That’s pretty classic for Scotty dogs. But I needed to add a few more blocks for a 6×6 setting so I added 3 stars. Then I cut the fabric strips wrong for the 9 patches..and decided 16 patches would be great. 🙂 Because of course I wasn’t going to waste that fabric…and I can’t buy anymore because of “fabric fast ” challenge. Design opportunity. What I love about the dogs…is that they are felted wool. So they are a bit fluffy. It will be more noticeable after it’s quilted. photo-002

So I took the pictures and asked my Fb friends if I should add a border. That was a “yes” and I added a 6 inch border with 4 patches of the extra squares from the blocks. I can say that I used almost every inch of fabric from the FQ I cut plus some extra scraps I had.  I also pieced a back for 5 yards. Total I added to this quilt 10 yards. This is a good full size quilt. 🙂

I also added borders to a scrappy that came in from Jolinda…pieced the backing & cut the binding. I get to add 3.5 yards to my count this week for that.

Fabric Count 51.75 +16.5+10+4+3.5=85.75 And still no significant “holes” in the stash. It keeps getting organized a bit better with each withdraw….:)

16.5 yards for Big & bold

10 yards for Scotty Dogs

4 yards of backing & binding for the applique flowers quilt that T made for me. (ready to be quilted now)

3.5 yards for a scrappy quilt that came in from Jolinda.

Yesterday 4 pretty good size quilts came in from Annette for our Scrappy trades. I am pretty excited. SO I will have to piece some backs & cut bindings for those. I have had so much to do and so many distractions because my family is home…I can’t seem to focus very well. So I am not getting very much work done.  I need to lock myself in studio and work-work-work.
