At the beginning of the year while sorting, reorganizing stash and sifting through for all of the projects I was going to use…I found these dresdens. I had made them for a different project and didn’t use them. SO they were sitting un-used. I decided to take my scraps of ric-rac and pull pink & yellow background fabrics and create a quilt.
I wanted a simple patch work background for these dresdens. They needed to be the star of the show. I also had some scrappy striped binding that would match perfectly.
I couldn’t decide just exactly how I was going to quilt it because I could turn those big dresdens into flowers….or ?
But as I was going through my quilts and trying to decide what to enter into our quilt show…..I needed something with feathers. I didn’t have anything new or romantic looking of my own that could hang in the show. So after consulting with Cindi…..we decided that I should quilt different feathers & designs in the background. It was fun to come up with all of those designs. I actually quilted it all one night while Bryce was out with his friends. He asked if he could stay out later …so that means I have to stay up later to make sure he got home…so I put that time to good use.
Once I got the quilt done I didn’t like the ric-rac. I used scraps of that…it didn’t work. I also didn’t like my binding. when I originally made the quilt it could have been “cutesy”. But once I quilted those fancy feathers…..the cutesy look did’t work. OS I cut new binding that is softer and more subtle. I also added lace around the ric-rac.
Quilting makes a HUGE difference in the overall look of a quilt. So I had to add more fabric back into my stash…but it’s a wash because I took some more out. Now I have cut binding strips that need a home. …….it is never ending right?
I also took pictures on 2 different days. One was a gloomy raining day…before I added lace. The next picture day was a sunny bright day after I added lace.
It’s really difficult to choose a favorite block:
Well that’s the Dresden quilt. I am now ready for the quilt show. I am not competitive. I am not holding my breath that I will win anything. But I am excited just to be a part of the process. I just think we need to support our local shows & guilds. I got an email that they were low on quilts …so I thought I would help. 🙂 It’s just difficult to choose. Plus I think it’s good advertisement for my business. I Hope you all have a blessed day.
