Charisma’s Flock of Birds

In 2012 I was part of a small quilt group. Nice group of ladies that met monthly and we had dinner, played games…show & tell…different projects ect. IMG_8354

Well the first year for our birthday blocks we had to give everyone a swatch of fabric to make a block to make for our birthday month. We also did a Signature Christmas block exchange. Then we decided in 2012 we would do a mystery quilt and also we would choose what blocks we wanted done for our individual birthday months. IMG_8355IMG_8357 IMG_8358 IMG_8359 IMG_8360 IMG_8361

This is Virginia’s block. I love teh message she stitched in thereIMG_8356IMG_8365

I chose a block from Material Obsession. It’s kind of an improv block where you just make a cut insert a tree branch here & there…..and then you can embellish the branch however you want. So I gave everyone Kona white and asked for that. These are the blocks I got back and I love them! There is actually one missing because it’s traveling around as a round robin. It took me awhile to figure out what I was going to do with them.I had some fabrics in my stash…..those bird cages. I wanted them to stay intact…and I decided to kind of just improv piece everything and make it all work. I didn’t want to cut anything down to the same size….I like the individuality. I also wanted the fabrics to kind of stay soft because I wanted the blocks to take center show. IMG_8364 IMG_8363

Can you just hear all of those birds chirping? IMG_8362

I quilted Charisma Curls, loops, straight lines to represent the cages…..swirls, feathers ect. I just had fun…and let it speak to me as I went.

My friend Virginia made the label for me to go with my quilt. It’s been signed by everyone…isn’t it cute? Kind of blurry…:(IMG_8367

I pieced the backing from fun fabrics. IMG_8366

I am so happy with my quilt! SO another BIG THANK YOU! To my old quilting group! I hope everyone is doing well.  🙂
