Carl’s Driving Milestone

Well Carl is my 3rd child…and the only one who is making this milestone on time.

Jeri took drivers ed a couple of times….her drivers test a couple of times. Eventually waited until she was 18 to get her license. Very frustrating.

Bryce has lost his privileges and had to pay for everything on his own without my help because of his behavior and mouth issues. He has had the money but refused to do it for several reasons..but basically because he doesn’t think he should have to because he thinks I “owe” him. Well now he’s going to be 17 and still not driving…and hopefully getting out of the stage of thinking I owe him more than food and shelter. LOL

Carl on the other hand….doesn’t give us one lick of trouble. Doesn’t ask for anything. Even when I find out he only has one pair of jeans and has outgrown his shoes..he still doesn’t ask.  For one reason he doesn’t want to be a burden on anyone. I tell him all the time he is not a burden when he asks for things he needs. His older Brother and sister get frustrating because they are always asking for things they don’t need. On top of that they are always needy and not working to their potential or purposely causing trouble. IMG_5772

Carl and I get along because I like Aspergers. I can adapt to that and I can appreciate all of the querks that come with it. So I told Carl because he is such a good kid and he doesn’t give us any trouble and he keeps up his grades I would pay for his drivers ed. I think good behavior deserves a reward…and I also think just because he isn’t a squeaky wheel he should be rewarded. So he starts drivers ed next week. Rob took him to get his permit yesterday. IMG_5779 IMG_5778 IMG_5777

Also Grandma and Grandpa gave him a car. Carl went to visit and they brought it back. He and Rob went and changed the title yesterday. Grandma and Grandpa also felt Carl deserved to have this gift because he really is a good kid with a good heart. I am so glad that all the focus can be on him ( as much as he doesn’t really like to be in the spotlight) because I think it’s rare to have a teenager without all of the issues. I think God was giving me a break inbetween because the oldest two are tough and the bottom three will be as well.

So the good news is the fact that Carl has made this milestone…Bryce is getting into gear.

Carl will pass without a hitch and I am sure he will be able to get his license on his 16th birthday. YAY! By then I will have two drivers to run my errands. YAY!

Yay Carl! Congrats! That is awesome. Of course my son Sam just said how much he likes your t-shirt. He is a huge Lincoln fan. :) Congrats Charisma on being such an awesome mom too! :)

Congratulations, Carl. I am proud of you just hearing what a wonderful young man you are. My grandson has Asperger’s, so I am familiar with the struggles, but it sounds like you are doing a wonderful job of coping with your condition. I pray that God will bless you mightily as you seek His will for your life.
